Taking Care of Your Jewelry, Gently

Your pieces deserve more than a quick wipe.

Jewelry isn’t just jewelry.
Sometimes it’s a gift. A keepsake. A favorite thing you reach for when nothing else feels right.

So it makes sense that taking care of it—properly, gently—isn’t just about keeping it shiny. It’s about helping it last in the way it was meant to.

Let’s keep it simple. Here’s how to care for your jewelry in ways that are easy, low-effort, and totally doable.

1. Last thing on, first thing off.

You’ve probably heard this one before. But it matters.

Make jewelry the final touch when you’re getting ready (after makeup, hairspray, and perfume).
At the end of the day, take it off first—before washing your face, before anything else.
It’s one of the easiest ways to protect your pieces from buildup and chemical wear.

2. Keep it dry. Always.

Water is not a friend to jewelry. Even if it’s plated or marked “water-resistant,” regular exposure can still dull the finish or loosen adhesives.

Remove your jewelry when:

  • Showering

  • Swimming

  • Washing dishes

  • Working out

Even sweat can affect the look and feel over time.

3. Store it the right way.

Tossing your pieces into a drawer or letting them tangle together on the bathroom counter? We’ve all done it. But that’s how they get scratched, bent, or just… lost.

Instead:

  • Use a soft-lined jewelry box

  • Keep chains untangled by clasping them before putting them away

  • Store pearls and delicate stones separately

Bonus: storing jewelry properly keeps it looking newer, longer.

4. Clean it—gently. Not aggressively.

You don’t need fancy cleaners or ultrasonic machines.

Here’s what usually works:

  • A soft cloth or microfiber towel

  • A little warm water and mild soap (if needed)

  • Pat dry thoroughly—don’t let it air-dry

Avoid toothpaste (yes, really), baking soda, or anything abrasive. Those can scratch even strong materials like gold.

5. Know what you’re wearing.

Different materials need different kinds of care.
A quick cheat sheet:

  • 14K gold plated: Avoid water, sweat, and alcohol-based products. Wipe gently after use.

  • Sterling silver: Tarnishes naturally—store it in a sealed bag or anti-tarnish cloth.

  • Pearls: Super delicate. Never soak. Just wipe with a ddamp, soft cloth and let dry.

When in doubt, less is more. Gentle is better.

Jewelry care doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to be consistent.

A few small habits will go a long way.
Because when you treat your pieces with care, they stay with you—looking as good as the day you fell in love with them.
